How Do Our Lessons Work?

As the academic year is just getting started, we thought that here at Why Not Languages, we would share with you exactly how our online private lessons work.

It goes without saying that the student, and their academic goals, are our number 1 priority at Why Not Languages, and therefore all our private lessons are tailor-made to target exactly what the student wants to achieve. Whether you want to improve your speaking, your reading comprehension, your writing ability, or whatever it may be, we have an extremely wide range of resources that we use during the sessions to help you do this.

How can I access these resources?

All lessons are conducted on Zoom, and to accompany this each student will receive their own Google Drive folder, in which all the relevant resources will be placed. This means that during each lesson the tutor and student can work collaboratively through Google Docs, and that all the resources worked on throughout the duration of tuition will be easily accessible in the folder, for you to look back on at any time (parents will also have access). This makes it a lot easier when it comes to recapping lesson notes, and to revise for any upcoming exams.

Note - you do not need to have a Google account to do this.

How can I measure my progress?

When each student starts tuition with us, we will use a "Lesson Tracker" sheet (also a Google Doc placed in the Drive), with which you will be able to see when each lesson takes place, which topics we covered in that lesson, if there was any homework set, and if we need to recap anything. This also makes it easier for the parent to monitor how their child is getting on. In terms of homework, at Why Not Languages it is not obligatory, however certain students do request to be given homework after each lesson, so it entirely depends on what the student is comfortable with. Although, we do recommend for the student to recap the previous lesson's material before the next session.

What about all the vocabulary I need to learn?

It goes without saying that any languages subject requires you to learn a significant amount of vocabulary to produce the language well and therefore get the best results, so we want to help you out with this as much as possible. Each student will also get a Vocabulary List in their Google Drive folder, which will be updated every lesson with any new words learnt in that lesson. We highly recommend that the student consults this list as much as possible (at least every other day), so that they can achieve the best results.

If you are interested in booking lessons, for either yourself or your child, and want to discuss how you can make the most out of them, then we would be delighted to arrange a free 15 minute Zoom meeting with you. I always think this is a good idea before starting lessons, because in this meeting we discuss a bit about yourself or your child, what areas you are struggling with the most, and how we can help you with our tailor-made lessons (plus any questions that you may have). Please head to the contact form of our website if you would like to arrange your free 15 minute meeting.

Thank you!
